Transit to Spain

On Wednesday the 18th of September we flew USAir flight 740 from Philadelphia International. Airport(PHL) to Madrid Barajas. Drove from farm to PHL, leaving at 1:45 PM, parked in Expresspark long term (off airport), took van shuttle to airport (short drive), went thru long slow check in line, and had wait for flight at 6:45 PM. We met two other El Camino hikers in airport, and saw several more on the plane. Expresspark saves lots of money compared to main airport parking. $6.75 versus $11/day.

Arrived in Madrid around 0830 on September 19, went through immigration quickly and took bus to terminal 4S to meet Prudencia. A few miles away. Barajas is very  large! Then caught 10:28 Renfe train to Chamartin station, where we were just in time to buy tickets and catch fast train to Leon at 1105.

Arrived in Leon around 1345, and hoofed it to the Leon Tryp hotel, a very nice clean hotel about a mile away where I had reserved rooms several days ago.

Fighting sleep so we would sleep better tonight, we bought bread, cheese, tomatoes, red wine (named "Perrigrino Tinto", what else?) and ham at grocery nearby. Consumed same in hotel just before writing this.

Next, to sleep!
